I encourage everybody, including all Mirror readers, to get behind the campaign for an opt-out system of organ donation. Personally, I think it is crazy that perfectly good organs should be destroyed when there are people dying because they are waiting on the transplant list.

It should be made compulsory for us all to donate our organs after we die. I have been a donor for as long as I can remember and everyone else should be too. If you don’t want to be a donor and would like to opt out, that is your choice.

However, if you are not prepared to give your own organs, what right do you have to get somebody else’s? I am certain the law will be changed soon, and not before time. Paul Martin, Rotherham, South Yorks # Well done to the Mirror on your campaign for a change in the system for organ donation. Surely, this is a no-brainer? There is a shortage of donor organs and a change in the law would help end the agony of those on the waiting list and their families. Wales has seen a surge in the number of organs available since it introduced presumed consent in 2015 and now Scotland is about to implement the same system. I urge everyone to sign the petition calling on Theresa May to follow the example of Wales and Scotland and, in the meantime, if you’re not signed up to the donor register, do so without delay. M Carey, Stevenage, Herts # Instead of the Prime Minister saying she will look into changing the law on organ donation, she should act – it would help save lives. What is the problem? If Theresa May really wanted to introduce an opt-out system, she could do it. What is better than helping to save someone’s life? Janet Davies Falmouth, Cornwall # After reading the story of nineyear-old Max Johnson who is waiting for a new heart, I immediately signed the petition to change the law on organ donation. What could be more beautiful than offering the gift of life to others after you have passed on? Keep up the good work Mirror, and let’s hope for

a change in the law soon. Jacqueline Brown, Sheffield # With regard to the discussion about the need for organ donors, I was in my doctors and looked to see if I could find any leaflets for a friend who was interested, but there was nothing there. Surely this should be one of the first places to get information on this topic? Kevin Miller, Warrington, Cheshire # Regarding the calls for a change in the law on organ donation to one of presumed consent, I suggest that you should not be willing to receive an organ should you need one, unless you are prepared to donate.
