BRIT qualifier Alexander Ward was unable to give his mum a Wimbledon win to kickstart her 60th birthday celebrations.

She was in the crowd on Court No.3 hoping her boy could shock British No.2 Kyle Edmund to reach the second round. Ward (right) lost in four sets but did leave with £35,000 of prize money.

He’ll use it to help him through the next year of his career, but could have done worse than spend some of it on a last-minute present for his mum.
