Cancer care poverty gap
THERE is a gulf in end-oflife cancer care between the richest and poorest areas, a study has shown.
Patients in poorer areas were more likely to have costly hospital emergency care rather than elective treatment, research for Macmillan found.
Hospital stays in poorer areas were up to five days longer, the City, University of London study revealed.
Lecturer Dr Mauro Laudicella said there were “significant disparities” in the cost of treatments.
