Sam Querrey dropped a set as the insects plagued his Court 18 battle. The American tried to swat them away before raising the issue with the umpire.
But the No 24 seed said: “He kind of laughed. He kind of shrugged it off. I almost wanted to stop because they were hitting you when you were trying to hit balls.”
Centre Court was also attacked, forcing umpire Kader Nouni to pick the ants from his beard. Brits Aljaz Bedene and Jo Konta also moaned, as #FlyingAntDay trended on Twitter.
