Government blasted as just 3 Grenfell families rehoused

- BY JASON BEATTIE Head of Politics

THE Government sent in a taskforce to help Grenfell survivors as it emerged just three families have been rehoused.

Theresa May had pledged new homes for fire victims in three weeks.

But as her deadline arrived yesterday, of the 158 families affected, 139 have received accommodation offers but only three have been able to move in.

Labour’s Shadow Housing Minister John Healey said the Government’s response was “not good enough” and “behind the pace at every stage.” Meanwhile, public inquiry chair, Sir Martin Moore-Bick, said he wanted to hear from people directly affected. Police said they had made 87 “finds” in the tower but had only been able to identify 21 victims. An inquest heard Sheila Smith, 84, on the 16th floor and Vincent Chiejina, 60, on the 17th, burnt to death in their flats.
