WAKEFIELD ARE STILL FINN WITH A CHANCE
LIAM FINN wants the real Wakefield Trinity to step forward when they face table-topping Castleford.
The former Tiger says his team have not played to anywhere near their potential in two meetings this year with tonight’s visitors – a pre-season friendly which they won and a 42-24 Good Friday drubbing.
Wakefield remain within touching distance of the top four after another against-the-odds campaign, but their experienced scrum-half wants an improved display in tonight’s derby.
“We’re disappointed in how we performed against Cas the last time we played and also in a friendly at the start of the year,” said Finn. “We just want to put in a performance.
“There might be an argument that they played so well we couldn’t, but we need to find a way to influence their game and put them off. It’s a tough game – they’re the
best team in the competition and have been all season. I don’t think that’s a secret. We just need to put our best performance in and see where that gets us.”
Ireland international Finn played his own part in Castleford’s revival under Daryl Powell before switching to Trinity at the start of 2016, and has no regrets.
He added: “Cas is nothing to do with me any more. I’ve moved on and I’m enjoying playing for Wakefield. I’m playing decent rugby and the move came at the right time. When I left, I wanted to be a No.7 in Super League and Wakefield offered me that chance.
“I feel I’ve repaid some of their faith. Castleford are doing well regardless of the fact I left.”
Hip surgery means Wigan coach Shaun Wane must watch Saturday’s clash at Catalans from a hospital bed but will stay in touch with his coaching staff during the game.
