Corrie love triangle is a blooming marvel for stars

-

If Samia Longchambon and Catherine Tyldesley are not sending flowers and champagne to Coronation Street’s writing team every day right now I want to know why.

They should certainly be thanking them for coming up with the Maria/ Aidan/Eva love triangle.

Before it came along I bet they’d been worrying whether they’d ever get another decent storyline.

Samia had suffered a succession of duff tales as everyone seemed to struggle with what to do next with Maria. As for Catherine, the less said the better about that woeful plot in which Eva helped Polish girl Maria escape her evil bosses, the O’Driscolls.

I’m not saying Corrie shouldn’t tackle social issues such as modern slavery – the current grooming storyline involving Bethany proves they can still do it well. I just prefer classic soap love rat tales. And it’s fair to say this one is bringing the best out in both ladies – especially Catherine, who is giving it the full Elsie Tanner treatment with her rolling eyes and indignant pout.

Last night’s showdown in that posh hotel was real edge of the seat stuff.

You just didn’t know who was going to kick off first. In the end neither of them did. Instead the writers upped the ante by bringing Corrie’s best actress Jane Danson in on the act.

“Don’t get sad, get even,” was Leanne’s considered advice for Eva. “The two of us are going to make him (Aidan) wish he’d never been born.”

Too right, ladies. Can you do me a favour first though?

Can you shred that beige overcoat of his, please. One, it’s minging. And two, why was he even wearing it in the height of summer?
