THERE can be nothing more thrilling or ridiculous than the finale of a buddy cop show pulled straight out of the 80s.

SKY 1, 9pm There’s a handy little recap as series three of this thriller kicks off – which is handy since we’ve waited nearly a year since the last one.

Journalist Jamie Campbell (Kristen Connolly) reminds us: “A decade ago, the animal population mutated, endangering human life on the planet.”

Her team, including scientists, doctors and animal experts, managed to cure the animals, but then a secretive group called The Shepherds released a gas that sterilised all of humanity.

Veterinary pathologist Dr Mitch MISSION Murtaugh and Riggs Morgan (Billy Burke) was killed trying to stop them, then the team disbanded.

And to make matters even worse, now 10 years on, there’s a new threat – the hybrids. An army of unstoppable lab-made creatures focused on destroying mankind.

So that’s the lay of the land. People are basically living in a zoo, where a lion might pounce at any moment.

There are some brilliant CGI wild animal fights as the action begins.

And checking off the emotion box, Mitch’s daughter is all grown up and out to find him.

Yes, she thinks he’s still alive.
