Nine out of 10 people in the UK receive between five and 30 nuisance calls per week. CPR Call Blocker has identified the top four telephone scams people tend to get caught out by.

They are: 1) Being called by so-called Microsoft Windows Support saying your computer has a virus and they need your passwords to fix it; 2) A crook claiming to be from your bank or HMRC saying there’s a problem with your account and requesting security details; 3) An offer of an unmissable investment or the chance to access pension savings early; 4) Messages to call back a number and being told you have won a large prize and being asked to pay a processing fee.

If in doubt, put the phone down. Sign up to the Telephone Preference Service at tpsonline.org.uk or on 0845 070 0707 to help stop unwanted calls.
