YOUR SHOUT
Fiona, thank you for championing the cause of teachers. I’m always grateful for your very public support.
Re last week’s comments: I do believe Hunt has a point in regards to checking for mental health issues.
The only bit he got wrong was the suggestion that teachers need training in order to spot the signs of mental illness in pupils.
I believe pupils should be taught to spot the signs of mental health issues in teachers.
So many of us have time off with stress or take regular medication for anxiety and depression that it’s time someone was looking out for us. Richard Hollingdale, Kent
Fiona, my daughter always wanted to be a teacher. She quit after one year.
She put up with the nightly meetings and workload once she’d finished her classroom duties – it was the attitude of parents that drove her to leave.
They never supported her if she phoned to discuss their children’s bad behaviour or lack of homework etc.
One even came into school and tried to attack her after she confiscated a pupil’s fizzy drink in class. Anne, via e-mail
