It’s hard to remember how unsafe the world was when That’s Life! began, over 40 years ago.

These days we take seatbelts for granted, and assume our children won’t be injured in playground­s.

But because viewers sent us their stories, we created campaigns which changed the law.

Seatbelts for children and safe surfaces for playground­s were just two of the issues we campaigned about, along with child abuse and transplant­s.

There were so many over our 21 years and I’m proud to say that, as a result, with the help of our viewers, we probably saved thousands of lives.

If you don’t have shows like That’s Life! where can you have these campaigns? Sure, there are great consumer shows like Watchdog and Rip Off Britain. But they can’t cover all the life-and-death issues, the whole range, and appeal to the broadest number of people possible.
