Sausages!

There was a time in the late 1970s when I couldn’t walk down a street without someone yelling “Sausages!” at me. And it was all down to a little talking dog called Prince who appeared on the show.

Prince, right, could say all sorts of words, including “Elvis” and even “Esther” but the one thing everyone remembers is “Sausages!” He became a star, even recording his own single, and he’s the talented pet people remember best. Which is slightly unfair because we had all sorts of brilliant animals, from horses that could do maths to ping-pong playing cats. Sadly, Prince passed on to the great dog kennel in the sky but he achieved immortality with us. And who can forget the night 10 dogs went barmy, rushing into the audience? We got our highest figures, 22.5 million.
