Bowie gets gong for Blackstar
DAVID Bowie has been posthumously honoured for his final record, Blackstar.
The singer’s 25th studio album won the Pop Music category at The South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
Musician Iggy Pop, 70, accepted the gong on Bowie’s behalf, in a video message played at the ceremony in Central London. Pop said his friend,
LEGEND Bowie in Blackstar who died in January last year, had changed “the game in rock and roll and in popular music”. Musical theatre composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, 69, won the Outstanding Achievement Award. Actress Glenn Close, 70, who worked with Lloyd Webber on Sunset Boulevard, said: “He has written tunes which will stay in people’s hearts for ever.”
