10-WICKET MO CAPS HIS ‘GREATEST DAY’
MOEEN ALI hailed the best all-round game of his career after taking his first 10 wicket-haul at the home of cricket.
The 30-year-old off-spinning all-rounder finished with 10-112 in the game to go with his 87 in the first innings as England beat South Africa
by 211 runs to go one up in the four-match series.
“That was definitely the best all-round performance of my career,” said Ali. “It was a great game for myself, and the team won the game so I’m very happy.
“It means a lot to have a game like that at Lord’s. All-rounders try to do as much as they can – and to do this in a winning cause is a great feeling.”
Ali considers himself a batsman who bowls, but it was his bowling that has finally got his name etched on the honours boards in the Lord’s dressing room. His 6-53 in the second innings was a career best, and Ali dedicated his man-of-the-match award to bowling coach Saqlain Mushtaq (left). “Saqqy has been helping me with my mindset before I go out to bowl, to keep things clear in my mind,” he said.
