Mrs Brown’s bores
Rory’s shock departure as he’s ‘just tired’ of endless live gigs
RORY Cowan has opened up about his shock decision to quit Mrs Brown’s Boys, saying he was
“bored” with live performances.
The actor, Agnes’ son Rory in the hit BBC show, told how, after 26 years working together, Brendan O’Carroll, who plays Mrs Brown, gave him his full blessing to leave. Rory told the Mirror: “I got tired of it, I haven’t been happy for the last two years... What was killing me was we were doing the exact same arenas, in the exact same order we did two years ago. I would have known, week by week, where I’d be until 2022. It was starting to become a phobia for me.
“I was beginning to dread it. It’s not exhausting, it’s just boring.” Fans were left stunned as Brendan made the shock announcement on Sunday night at London’s O2 arena. But Rory, 57, said his “mind was made up”, adding he was “not sad” to be going, but “over the moon”. He said: “My last show was the O2 in London – six sold-out shows, 10,000 people at each show, it was brilliant. “If you’re going to go out on a high, you can’t get much bigger.”
