Michelin man Tom tackles lo-cal food

-

HAVING lost 12 stone in three years, there are not many people better placed to advise on weight loss than Tom Kerridge.

The Michelin-starred chef who used to weigh 30 stone is to front a TV series to show eating healthily does not have to be boring.

Tom, 43, has set up a TV company and landed his first commission, a prime time series for BBC2.

In Tom Kerridge: Lose Weight for Good, he aims to take the sensible (but dull) advice offered by the NHS for flab fighters and turn it into tasty, flavoursome recipes people actually want to eat.

For the six-part series from Bone Soup Productions, Tom is joined by 13 locals who live near his pub in Marlow, Bucks, to test the recipes.

They include a vicar, a police officer and a nurse who is getting married later in the year. The Wilt- shire-born chef tells us: “It’s impossible to lose weight and keep the weight off for good if you don’t enjoy what you’re eating.

“The NHS offers really sound advice about how to lose weight so I’ve taken this as the starting point for creating delicious low-calorie dishes people will want every day.”

He adds: “The cooking techniques mean there’s no compromise on flavour and you’re promised a generous plate of food.

“I’m hoping this will help more people to lose weight and still love what they eat. They’ve all got strong reasons why they want or need to lose weight. So they’ve agreed to cut down their calorie intake and I’m providing them with recipes they can make and enjoy at home. We’ll have to see how well they get on.”

The Bake Off: Creme de la Creme judge, who is married with an 18-month-old son, lost nearly half his body weight after turning 40 and deciding he needed to get into shape.

Back then he followed a no-carbs regime which concentrated on foods high in the organic chemical dopamine to make him feel happy.

He also went without alcohol after having spent many years downing up to 12 pints a night.

Tom’s move into low-calorie cooking will air early next year and be accompanied by a book.
