Future fears for the young
PEOPLE are increasingly pessimistic about opportunities for the younger generation, a poll shows.
Just 41% of adults agree young people have equal opportunities to get ahead compared to 53% in 2008, The Sutton Trust research reveals.
Some 46% feel today’s youth will have a worse life than their parents but 47% say high-quality education in comprehensive schools will most help disadvantaged children to get on.
The education charity claims better social mobility could boost UK GDP by £590 per person. Chairman Sir Peter Lampl said: “If social mobility were brought up to the western European average, GDP will rise by £39billion.”
