Danger moth risk to health
MOTHS that can strip oak trees and are a risk to health have been found nesting in Jersey, sparking fears of a UK invasion.
As caterpillars, oak processionary moths have poisonous hairs that can shed in the wind, causing breathing problems, rashes and eye irritation.
Their attacks on oaks leave the trees open to other pests and diseases.
Jersey’s Environment Department urged locals to report nests and said: “The moth is not something that will go away.”
