Audiences are no longer In The Dark about Buring’s talent
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched MyAnna Buring playing supporting roles in TV dramas and being the best thing in it.
So I’m delighted that she has finally landed a lead role on the latest offering from BBC1’s specialist Gritty Northern Police Dramas unit.
Buring is one of those actresses you see in lots of things but can’t put a name to. She has worked as a maid in Street. One of the reasons that she can be so hard to place is that she rarely looks the same.
She pulls that trick again for In The Dark, darkening her blonde Scandinavian locks to play DI Helen Weeks.
In last night’s gripping opener, newly pregnant Weeks returned to her childhood home in Derbyshire after the husband of an old school friend was arrested following the disappearance of two teenage girls. However, it soon became obvious that Weeks has a mysterious back story bubbling under the surface.
It was also hard to avoid the feeling that In The Dark has more than a touch of the Broadchurches about it.
That’s no bad thing though – and the Peak District does look particularly stunning.
But I don’t recall it raining quite so relentlessly when I lived around there, mind.
