RUTHERFORD RUSHES TO BE FIT
GREG RUTHERFORD is racing against time to be fit to defend his world title.
Rutherford hoped to be over ankle damage by now and ready for next month’s London World Championships.
British Athletics performance director Neil Black said: “He is doing everything he can to get there. If anybody can do it, it’s Greg.”
Five years ago Rutherford (right) soared to Olympic long jump gold in the London Stadium and since then has crowned himself Commonwealth, European and world champion.
But the 30-year-old has only jumped twice this year, and he pulled out of Sunday’s Anniversary Games.
CHRISTINE OHURUOGU, Olympic and two-time World Champion, did not qualify for the 400m and is not picked for the relay, bringing the curtain down on her international career.
