JAMIE: I AM NOT A MASTER BLASTER

-

JAMIE MURRAY reckons he will have to think, rather than blast, his way to another Wimbledon mixed doubles title.

Murray (above) won the trophy with Jelena Jankovic in 2007 and, a decade on, has linked up with 36-year-old Swiss doubles queen Martina Hingis (below).

The top-seeded pair secured their place in the quarters, thanks to a rain-interrupted 6-3 6-3 success over Czech duo Roman Jebavy and Lucie Hradecka.

The match was stopped by rain twice before Murray and Hingis won in one hour and 11 minutes.

Murray, 31, said: “The more we play together, the better we will get – or I hope so, anyway.

“We are not there to overpower payers and blast our way through the draw.

“We have to think about it a little bit more, but that is more fun and is more fun to watch as well.

“It’s exciting for me and I’m enjoying playing and I hope we can keep going and going and going.” Meanwhile, Toni Nadal fired a parting shot at Wimbledon by accusing the Championships of acting like a “small tournament” over who plays on Centre Court.

The coach of nephew Rafa Nadal said: “Wimbledon is wrong. It wants to be the best tournament, but, at the same time, it does small tournament stuff.

“At Roland-Garros, Rafa is normally the big favourite, but he doesn’t always play on Centre Court – they take turns.”

French Open champion Nadal lost late on Monday night to Gilles Muller on Court One. And the No.2 seed showed it was not just the women players unhappy with the Manic Monday scheduling when he said: “I like playing more on Centre Court. Someone has to play on Centre and it’s almost always the same players here.

“A tournament that wants to be as traditional and as special as Wimbledon has to distribute the matches scheduled on Centre Court, so it is not always the same people who are playing there.”
