For Pete’s sake, Corrie is asking for trouble

- IAN HYLAND

I’ve seen some dodgy career decisions in my time but recovering alcoholic Peter Barlow’s latest move is surely asking for trouble.

As of last night he is the new landlord of the Rovers – in a storyline development I can only describe as regrettable given it has displaced Liz and Steve McDonald from their natural home.

Forgive my ignorance if this is actually some new kind of therapy but to me allowing Peter to man the pumps and optics feels almost as dangerous as a world superpower suddenly putting a volatile megalomaniac in charge of the nuclear codes.

Don’t forget, Peter has already had his fingers burned in the past thanks to his addictive personality – remember what happened at the bookies when his own gambling got out of control?

It makes you wonder what his next unsuitable career choice will be – running a monogamy advice line?

Plus, how much more orange juice can one man’s body process?

I bet it already looks like a Sunny Delight fountain has been switched on every time he goes for a wee.

With the form Corrie has been in lately we should probably trust that the writers have got this one right as well. However, at the moment I don’t think Peter and Toyah look right behind that bar.

Hopefully that’s simply my grief at losing a pair of legends talking.

There has been a McDonald behind that bar for 10 of the past 12 years – and you can count on one hand the number of times they have served up a flat storyline.
