Sad Sol is own worst enemy

-

SOL CAMPBELL is frustrated that no chairman has offered him a shot at management.

Despite having little coaching experience, Campbell says he can’t understand why someone like him would be overlooked. He thinks it could be down to having a history of being outspoken.

And he may be right. Because most of the time anyone in football hears him speak, they wonder why he lacks a humility gene.

A couple of months back, he was angry about not being invited to White Hart Lane by Spurs to be paraded as a legend on the final game there. Even though he’s the last person Spurs fans wanted to see. Partly because, in 2007, he demanded government action against their fans who chanted “Judas” at him, claiming it was as bad as racist abuse.

Two years ago, he said he wanted to stand as the Tory candidate for the Mayor of London to fight Labour’s plans for a Mansion Tax, which he claimed would impoverish people like him who owned £25million Chelsea mansions.

And, five years ago, he claimed that when he was “definitely the best centre-half in the world”, all five England managers he played under refused to make him their permanent captain because he was black. Despite all five having had black captains at club level.

And despite Campbell (above) captaining England as many times as Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alf Ramsey.

Maybe if the man who has described himself as “a soaring eagle” realised there’s no “i” in “team”, he might have more of a chance of coaching one.
