German giants line up shock Giroud deal

Dortmund want Giroud if Auba joins Chelsea

BORUSSIA DORTMUND are ready to make a move for Olivier Giroud after the Arsenal star admitted he is considering quitting the Emirates.

The France forward fears the arrival of £52million record-signing Alexandre Lacazette (both above) has put his Gunners future in doubt.

And it is Dortmund who are the surprise team in the frame to sign Giroud, as they look for a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who seems ready to join Chelsea.

Giroud’s move to Dortmund would depend on Aubameyang (below) leaving.

Everton, West Ham, Marseille and AC Milan are all interested in Giroud, 30, who knows he must start regularly this season or risk losing his place in the Les Bleus’ squad for next summer’s World Cup.

He signed a new three-year deal in January, but yesterday spoke in the past tense, as if his career at Arsenal was coming to an end.

Talking at the club’s launch of their new third-choice kit in Sydney, he said: “Leaving is an option. But I’m here in pre-season, I wanted to travel. I am an Arsenal player and, for the moment, I am here.

“But it is true that I really enjoyed my five years with Arsenal. No matter what happens, I did my job on the pitch.

“I had an amazing welcome from the fans and from the club and it has been five amazing years for me.”

Giroud, who arrived at the Gunners in 2012, has fought for his place in the past.

And boss Arsene Wenger (below) insists he does not want him to leave – but will seek £35m if he does go.

Everton have led the hunt, but Marseille may be able to tempt him back to France.

However, Giroud insisted, if he does stay, he is not afraid to battle with Lacazette, who he currently keeps out of the France starting XI.

Giroud added: “It is always nice for the club to get strikers with different qualities for competition.”

Lacazette, who has already been likened to Gunners legend Ian Wright, said: “If I have a career where fans think of me like Ian Wright, then I’ll be very happy.”
