Split Government risks ‘falling apart like a chocolate orange’

- BY JACK BLANCHARD Political Editor

THE Government is so badly split over Brexit it could “fall apart like a chocolate orange”, a top civil servant warned.

The Government’s chief auditor Sir Amyas Morse said the PM’s plan for leaving the EU was “vague” and Brexit could be a “horror show”.

Sir Amyas fears warring Whitehall departments are leading us to the brink of disaster.

“Government needs to act as far as possible in a unified way,” he said. “What we don’t want is at the first tap, this falls apart like a chocolate orange.” His National Audit report warns the UK’s shambolic new customs system may not be ready in time for Brexit. Meanwhile, EU Brexit chief Michel Barnier slammed Boris Johnson for saying Brussels could “whistle” for the divorce bill. He said: “I’m not hearing whistling, just the clock ticking.”
