COMEDY

-

BBC1, 8.30pm Lovers of toilet humour will appreciate this final episode of the polarising comedy. The opening joke involves an actual toilet, the Count (Steve Delaney) and an unfortunate incident. Make of that what you will.

Some of this series has flown way below belly-laugh status – someone regularly asks Arthur an ‘either/or’ question and he answers “yes”. Arthur misunderstands a situation and lands himself in trouble. Arthur is so wrapped up in himself, he fails to be a good TROUBLE Delaney as Arthur friend. It’s not always surprising. But every now and again there’s an amusing skit or meaningful moment to remind us of this show’s success.

In tonight’s episode it’s Michael’s (Rory Kinnear) birthday, and he’s rather put out that Arthur seems to have forgotten. But after a story involving the legendary Tommy Cooper and a blowhorn, Michael is whisked off on a magical mystery tour to a safari park.

Once there, the group of misfits face a terrifying battle for survival. But it’s the quiet little monologue from Birdie at the end that we love the most.
