Jezza as PM is British KO, insists Blair
TONY Blair says electing Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister could leave Britain “flat on its back and out for the count”.
The former Labour PM said he “did not foresee” Mr Corbyn’s election success as he urged politicians to think again over Brexit.
Mr Blair insisted the “determining factor” was the dismal Tory campaign.
And he said there are still huge “risks” for Britain if an “unreconstructed” Mr Corbyn does get to No10.
Mr Blair said: “If a rightwing populist punch in the form of Brexit was followed by a left-wing populist punch in the form of unreconstructed hard left economics, Britain would hit the canvas – flat on our back, out for a long count.”
DAVID Davis has finally admitted Britain will have to pay an EU “divorce bill”.
In another climbdown, the Brexit Secretary said he accepts the UK has financial ties to Europe that stretch beyond our 2019 exit date. EU chiefs claim Britain owes up to £88billion in commitments covering future projects, pensions and budget payments after Brexit.
They demand Theresa May agrees to the bill before beginning free trade discussions. Brexiteer ministers have so far been bullish about avoiding the payment.
But Mr Davis said: “The Government recognises that the UK has obligations to the EU, and the EU obligations to the UK, that will survive the UK’s withdrawal… and that these need to be resolved.”
It comes as Mrs May refused to sack government adviser Lord Adonis, who said Brexit may be as big a mistake as appeasing Hitler.
