Online teeth whiteners’ bleach peril
ILLEGAL teeth-whiteners with dangerously high levels of bleach are being sold online, a report said.
Some imported kits seized by officials contained 33% bleaching agent hydrogen peroxide. The legal limit is 6%. Trading Standards and the Border Force have confiscated 15,000 illegal kits destined for home use.
A survey in Warwickshire found high street firms were not using dangerous products.
But Cllr Howard Roberts said illegal kits can cause “stomach problems, gum shrinking, toothache and nerve damage”.
DIY whitening kits are legal but anyone offering whitening services has to be supervised by a dentist, though hygienists can carry them out.
