Moon project looks set to be goldmine
A SPACE company plans to mine for gold and other resources on the Moon.
Moon Express believes it can have a robotic mine up and running in two years and wants to offer holidays on the planet by 2026.
The company, owned by billionaire entrepreneur Naveen Jain, wants to dig up gold and Helium-3 from the satellite’s south pole.
Helium-3 is of particular interest because it is a clean, non-radioactive energy source that could potentially power nuclear fusion reactors.
The first stage of Moon Express’s plans is to send a lander to the planet by the end of this year. It will return samples by 2020.
Moon Express boss Bob Richards said: “We want to give everyone the chance to own lunar rocks.”
