Woman robs sick gran of £41k savings
A WOMAN wept as she was jailed for stealing the £41,000 life-savings from her dementia suffering gran so her husband could build a “happy hour” bar.
Helen Webb, 50, emptied the 95-year-old’s account over seven months and also treated herself and hubby Gary, 45, to a holiday.
She got power of attorney over her relative’s money in 2014 by faking a letter. As appointee of her benefits, more than £7,000 was paid to Helen.
Judge Ray Singh told Hull crown court: “These were wicked offences. You spent only £20,000 but this was only because you had not been caught.”
Helen, of Hull, admitted fraud and got 28 months. Gary, found guilty of using criminal property, got an 18-month suspended term.
