The TV presenter, 33, has had 250 operations since an attack ordered by a former boyfriend. Katie said: “I wanted to commit suicide. CAMPAIGN Katie Piper

For survivors, the aftermath is a life sentence.” It was “all too easy” to buy acid, she said, adding: “It is vital we do everything we can to halt these attacks. Tougher sentencing would surely act as a deterrent.” The campaigner, writing in medical journal Scars, Burns & Healing, called for a crackdown on both selling acid and using it as a weapon.

Another acid burns survivor, Adele Bellis, said she was “so angry” over the London attacks. She added: “The number of these is rising, nothing is being done.”

Adele, 25, of Lowestoft, Suffolk, lost her ear and half her hair in an attack at a bus stop ordered by an ex three years ago.
