PRETTY FOR POLY

- BY DAVID YATES

ROLY POLY stepped out of stablemate Winter’s shadow to land the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket’s July Festival.

Aidan O’Brien’s filly (left) had proved no match for star miler Winter on her last two starts, but made all the running under Ryan Moore to score from Godolphin’s returning Wuheida.

The victory gave O’Brien his 11th Group 1 triumph of 2017 — and Roly Poly’s owner Michael Tabor believes US Hall Of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel’s record of 25 top-level wins in a calendar year is in sight.

“Bobby Frankel was a great trainer,” said Tabor. “It would be nice if Aidan could beat his record — which I’d have thought he would in time.”

O’Brien and Moore also combined to take the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes with 2,000 Guineas hero Churchill’s sister Clemmie.
