Monks’ wine bucks trend

A STRONG wine produced by monks has moved into a list of Britain’s favourite drinks for the first time.

Buckfast tonic, known as Bucky and made by the Devon monks, is especially popular in Scotland.

Now it has nudged into 91st in a table of 100 bestsellin­g alcohol brands compiled by The Grocer after efforts to re-brand it.

Sales in the south of England grew by £2million last year. The trade mag said: “It is shaking off its controvers­ial reputation.”
