Finneran and Fraser key to Loch’s success

- IanHyland on last night’s telly

F you opted for Poldark last night and are still waiting to catch up on the finale of The Loch, you might want to look away now.

Everyone else can join me as I breathe another sigh of relief that the killer was not who many feared it might be. Nessie didn’t do it, people! Kieran did. Well, Jordan pretending to be Kieran (honestly, don’t ask – we’d be here all day).

At this point, some of you might be yelling “Well, of course a mythical aquatic dinosaur didn’t commit a series of murders in a Sunday night ITV drama, you clown.”

And I must admit that a few weeks in I was beginning to have my doubts about Nessie being in the frame. I mean, I could just about believe “she” had learned how to do stairs and drive a minivan. But fire a hunting rifle? Surely that was pushing it.

However, in the crazy world of The Loch, anything seemed possible.

You only had to marvel at the way Siobhan Finneran’s blow-dry stood up to the rigours of police work and the wild Scottish weather.

The Loch was utterly unbelievable at times – as if the Fargo writers had taken it upon themselves to create a fourth series of Broadchurch.

I enjoyed it, though – mainly thanks to the performances of Finneran and Laura Fraser as the detectives.

The killer may have escaped alive, so a second series is possible. That’s fine by me – but only if Finneran and Fraser are on board again.
