NHS hunting 2,000 docs in NZ and Oz
THE NHS is to launch a global search for 2,000 more doctors in a bid to solve Britain’s GP crisis.
They will be recruited from countries such as New Zealand, Australia and the rest of the EU.
NHS England chief Simon Stevens said it was “industrial scale international recruitment”.
He said four times the planned 500 extra doctors were needed. The Government vowed to hire 5,000 more GPs by 2020, but is predicted to renege on this.
Dr Richard Vautrey, of the British Medical Association said it was “another clear admission of failure”.
Mr Stevens said of lifting the 1% pay cap: “There’s a sense of fairness across the NHS that it would be a good thing to do.”
