‘Check up on foreign aid‘

THE UK’s £13billion overseas aid spending needs more scrutiny, a watchdog will say today.

No Government department has responsibi­lity and there are “gaps in accountabi­lity”, found the National Audit Office.

Other ministries’ cash is added to the Department for Internatio­nal Developmen­t’s funds to hit the pledge to inject 0.7% of national wealth abroad.

But the NAO did not find evidence of heavy spending at the end of the financial year to justify its budget, as was claimed.
