‘Check up on foreign aid‘
THE UK’s £13billion overseas aid spending needs more scrutiny, a watchdog will say today.
No Government department has responsibility and there are “gaps in accountability”, found the National Audit Office.
Other ministries’ cash is added to the Department for International Development’s funds to hit the pledge to inject 0.7% of national wealth abroad.
But the NAO did not find evidence of heavy spending at the end of the financial year to justify its budget, as was claimed.
