THE new Wimbledon champion claimed his wife Mirka is the driving force behind his continuing success.

They met at the 2000 Olympics – the year former player Mirka (right) made her SW19 debut. Speaking at the Champions’ Dinner, Roger Federer said: “I think I owe her a lot. She has pushed me to work harder.

“She was a hard worker and player. Me, not so much. Without her, I don’t think it would have been the same.” CHAMPIONSHIP leaders Hull KR have won the race to sign Leeds captain Danny McGuire – regardless of which competition they are in next season.

The Robins have confirmed McGuire’s capture on a two-year deal from next season, even if they are not successful in securing promotion via the upcoming Qualifiers.

The half-back, 34, is one of the most decorated players of the modern era, as well as Super League’s all-time top try scorer.

He will complete the season at the Rhinos before linking up with Hull KR for pre-season.

McGuire said: “I could have quite easily stuck around at Leeds and finished my career here.

“But I’ve still got a lot to give and I’m playing well, so I’m looking forward to starting afresh and putting a marker down at Hull KR.”
