Huge income gap between some regions

-

BRITAIN’S gaping wealth divide is exposed today in a damning report.

Average household income in South East England was 25% more than in the West Midlands, the study found.

Yet the biggest difference in wealth was not between regions, but within local areas.

Campbell Robb, of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, which funded the Institute for Fiscal Studies report, said: “Rebalancing our lopsided economy must be a priority if we are to create a country that works for all.”

It came as MPs began a probe into levels of hunger among older people.
