There’s nothing more irritating in life than a toast rack. You find these stainless steel crimes against humanity on hotel breakfast tables across the world.

And yet they only serve one purpose – to transform what has the potential to be glorious hot buttered toast, into cold, dry, cardboard in seconds. So it is Marmite that I can’t do without on my hols. Step 1: rescue toast from rack. Step 2: slather in butter. Step 3: whip out your travel-sized jar of Marmite and spread thinly (not too much, you’re British for goodness sake). A little taste of home.
