Drink driving con is caught

POLICE stopped a drink driver and discovered he was a fugitive who had been on the run since 2000.

Greg Newby, 42, had failed to return to Kirkham open prison in Lancashire, from home leave when he was half-way through a five-year term for assault.

After his arrest in Ruabon, Wrexham, North Wales, for drink driving, Newby, of Duston, Northants, got six months’ jail and a 17-month ban.

He also faces serving out his original jail sentence.
