Tragic ‘raider butted lintel’

-

AN armed robber who died during a shop raid smashed his head “on a concrete lintel” while trying to flee, it is claimed.

One of a crowd who “restrained” Shane Bryant, 29, says he collapsed after he tried to get over a gate.

The 67-year-old witness said: “Nobody attacked the guy. We shut the gate and he climbed over it, banging his head hard on a lintel.”

Bryant, of Birmingham, who allegedly had a baseball bat, died after staff were threatened last week at a Co-op in Ashby, Leics. A SKINT family given £26,000 on TV’s Great British Benefits Handout have shut their business but vow not go on the dole.

Tony Herridge, partner Diane Esders, and their son Michael, signed off benefits after getting the huge sum from Channel 5.

The couple, of Hull, East Yorks, set up Tidy & Sons, a second-hand business, flogging gear Del Boy-style.

They said: “It just wasn’t working any more for us. It breaks our hearts. Sorry for letting you all down.”
