Rose stars in his own Lego movie
JUSTIN ROSE has his old red jumper and a new Lego cartoon to remember his 1998 Open at Birkdale.
But the Olympic champion admitted it is now time to make new memories at his home Open.
The then 17-year-old amateur pitched in at the 72nd hole to finish tied fourth wearing a baggy red jumper.
“I have got it in a little frame at home along with a ball and a glove and a picture,” said Rose.
“It is still there. It is one of the things my kids find quite interesting. I have lobbed all my memorabilia in the movie room at home. It might fit me now – it was pretty big, wasn’t it?”
Rose’s final shot 19 years ago has now been immortalised in 21st century style. “When your final shot is made into a Lego scene (above), you can show your children,” said the 2013 US Open winner.
“My kids are five and eight and my nephew is three. You see them watch it and see them impressed. That’s how you know it was a cool achievement.”
But the world No.12, now 36, has never finished higher in 14 subsequent appearances, including five missed cuts.
“It surprises me after all these years that is still the best finish and because of that, it is unfinished business,” he said.
“I feel I’m at a stage now where I can put those past performances behind me and focus on a good week.”
