Wenger is bugged by sickness

- FROM JOHN CROSS in Shanghai

ARSENE WENGER has seen his pre-season preparations hit by a sickness bug.

Per Mertesacker and Olivier Giroud both missed Arsenal’s friendly win over Bayern Munich.

Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey played despite feeling ill, while new left-back Sead Kolasinac was sick on the pitch.

Gunners boss Wenger said: ”The doctor thinks it’s food poisoning” and revealed his No.2 Steve Bould has missed the Chinese leg of the trip after undergoing surgery on a hernia in his neck.

Laurent Koscielny is also nursing a back injury.

Despite flying in from freezing conditions in Australia to sweltering heat here, Arsenal had the strength to beat Bayern on penalties after Alex Iwobi’s last-gasp leveller took it to spot-kicks.

Argentinian sub keeper Emiliano Martinez was the shootout hero, saving twice, while Petr Cech was man of the match after a string of brilliant saves.
