Tory squabbling risks EU disaster
IF the Tories had been honest with the public during the referendum campaign they would have explained that a vote to leave the EU meant the UK having to painfully extricate itself from a 40-yearold treaty containing 12,000 laws.
I am sure the result of the referendum would have been different if this fact was known at the start.
As it is, we have the Tories still fighting like ferrets in a sack over Europe, this time over a hard or soft Brexit. Tory Leavers and Remainers are so entrenched in their way of thinking they appear blind to any form of compromise.
We can’t leave Britain’s future in the hands of the dysfunctional Tories – we need a Labour government more than ever. With his calm, sensible approach to issues, Jeremy Corbyn is the best person to head negotiations. Christine Hanks, Woking, Surrey
Some people who don’t like the result of the democratic referendum have taken to social media, or resorted to demonstrations and intimidation against those who voted to leave the EU, all with the hope of getting a second vote. But what if there was another referendum and the result was the same? EU leaders are laughing at us. They see us as lacking leadership due to the backstabbing by MPs who want to destroy talks on Brexit. I urge everyone, regardless of their age, to pull together and leave the Government to work on Brexit and get the best deal in our favour. I’m not a Tory, I just happen to believe in democracy. Jack H Bradshaw, Manchester
As a pro-EU voter I’ve been forced to accept that we are leaving the EU. However, I can see that my scepticism of the Tory Brexiteers has been verified when I look at the behaviour of their leaders.
The whole party is busy fighting instead of applying their efforts to getting the best possible deal with the EU.
We need to get rid of this rabble before they kill any chance of a decent settlement in the Brexit talks. Terry Marriott Waterlooville, Hants
The hysteria of business leaders and financial institutions over the economic consequences of Brexit shows their sheer naivety.
It also demonstrates a lack of concern about UK citizens wanting their sovereignty back. It seems these people only care about lining their own pockets.
We voted to leave the EU because we don’t want to be told what to do by an unelected Parliament in another country. The UK survived before the EU came into being and we will survive after we leave. A Woodcock, Dover
It is official, Britain has become a laughing stock in Europe. We know the Tory plans for Brexit could be written on the back of a postage stamp, but did they have to make it so obvious by turning up to the talks with no paperwork? Mary Pester, Saltash, Cornwall
Before we joined the EU we made everything in this country, from bicycles to cars and more. I, for one, would like to see our industries back once again. We need to get out now to sever the EU’s hold on us. Then they can negotiate, not dictate. Laurie Brassett, Ossett, West Yorks
