1m in debt on food and fuel
MORE than a million people are driven deeper in debt by borrowing to pay for food, housing and fuel.
Many turn to doorstep lenders and payday loans with interest rates of over 1,000%, a report warns.
StepChange Debt Charity wants the government to follow the US and Australia by introducing a no-interest loan scheme.
It said: “Without support from the government, households will be left with financial products which risk pushing them deeper into hardship.”
