1m in debt on food and fuel

-

MORE than a million people are driven deeper in debt by borrowing to pay for food, housing and fuel.

Many turn to doorstep lenders and payday loans with interest rates of over 1,000%, a report warns.

StepChange Debt Charity wants the government to follow the US and Australia by introducing a no-interest loan scheme.

It said: “Without support from the government, households will be left with financial products which risk pushing them deeper into hardship.”
