Dali’s body is exhumed in paternity row

- BY MARTIN BAGOT

SALVADOR Dali’s body was being exhumed last night to settle a paternity claim from a woman who says she is his only child.

The surrealist artist’s coffin was dug up at the Dali museum in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain, where he was buried in 1989.

The 1.5ton slab over his tomb was lifted after the last tourists left. DNA samples will be taken from his teeth and bones.

Tarot card reader Pilar Abel, 61, who calls herself “Dali without the moustache”, says her mother had a fling with the artist in 1955. She won a court order for the exhumation.

She will be entitled to a quarter of Dali’s fortune, left to the Spanish state, if proved to be his daughter. Property and artworks may be worth £270million.
