- BY JACOB CHRISTIANSON

THE youngest person to qualify as a doctor in the UK starts work next month at the age of 21.

Arpan Doshi this week graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Sheffield.

Indian-born Arpan, who will now work at York Hospital, said: “I didn’t realise I was the youngest person to qualify till a friend checked online.

“I haven’t even told my parents yet, but I know they will be very proud.”

On graduation, he was 21 years and 335 days old, compared to record holder Rachael Faye Hill, who was 21 years and 352 days old when she qualified in 2010.

Arpan’s aim now is to become a heart surgeon.
