Digital Monday, Disc Aug 7 This British-Indian period drama is precision made to appeal to Downton Abbey fans. Even director Gurinder Chadha of Bend It Like Beckham fame described it as the Upstairs, Downstairs view of the partition of India.

Upstairs, Hugh Bonneville and Gillian Anderson star as Lord and Lady Mountbatten, plotting an end to British rule. Meanwhile, downstairs Manish Dayal and Huma Qureshi play Jeet and Aalia, servants who are enjoying a cross-cultural romance.

You won’t learn much history but this movie is charming and enjoyable.
