SIX-GOAL SHOW MADE A ‘STATEMENT’
ENGLAND’S Lionesses claim they have sent out a message to their rivals at the Women’s European Championship.
Ellen White, who scored the killer third goal in England’s 6-0 thrashing of Scotland in their opening match, said: “Three points on the board is all we ever wanted, but six goals is a statement to the rest of the teams as well.
“The result speaks for itself. We’ve shown that we can score, we’re clinical and we put in a big performance.
“Sometimes, when you play your first game, you try to feel your way into a tournament, but we scored early on, which settled us.” “Now we’ve got to put that to bed and look forward to Spain. We’ve got a lot of confidence and momentum. We want to qualify top of our group.” They have history with Spain, who stunned them at the last Euros with a lastminute win that sent England crashing out.
White paid tribute to teammate Jodie Taylor (left), who scored the first hat-trick by a woman at a major finals.
White laid on Taylor’s third and said: “I’m buzzing for her, really proud of her. I’m proud of the whole team.”
