MIGRANTS LET INTO UK FOR 4YRS AFTER BREXIT
EU citizens could be allowed in for up to four years after Brexit following a win for Remain ministers.
Theresa May’s warring Cabinet are now “united” on the need for a transitional period after we leave the EU in 2019, top Tories claimed yesterday.
Even ministers who want to “take back control” accepted the need for an interim deal. Some sources say the plan, reportedly drawn up by Remain-backing Chancellor Philip Hammond, will offer free movement for two years. Others suggest it may be as long as four.
Leave-backing Environment Secretary Michael Gove said a “pragmatic” run-in period would “ensure we can continue to have not just access to labour but the economic stability and certainty which business requests”.
He added: “That is something around which the Government is united.” Fellow Brexiteer Liam Fox, said: “Having waited 43 years, another couple of years... seems to me just a commonsense thing to do.”
But Brexit-backing Tory Peter Bone warned Mrs May will face a backlash from within her own party. He said such a transitional deal over free movement was “absolutely unacceptable”.
THERESA May’s Brexit strategy is crumbling before our very eyes.
Workers in other European countries will be free to come to Britain after her March 2019 exit
date. The transition may be sensible to avoid a crisis but this isn’t what she promised.
Mrs May’s “Brexit means Brexit” slogan has been exposed as the empty chant of a clueless Prime Minister.
Every day it is more apparent the easy departure portrayed by the Leaver elite to win the referendum was a giant con.
We have a lot of spin from the Tories. What’s lacking is honesty.
